This year Hockey Canada, OHF and GTHL have created a program that requires one parent/guardian of any player registered in any of the leagues that they must complete the online course in Respect in Sport Parent Program before their child can start any on ice activities. This includes any of the tryout process or any practices including select. Again No player may take part in any on ice activities such as tryouts, house league or practices until the parent/guardian has fully completed the program.

About the Respect Group:
Respect Group has created critical abuse prevention education with the Respect in Sport Activity Leader Program. This easy to use online training enables sport and community organizations to create a safer, more ethical environment by providing essential information to each organization’s critical stakeholders. Respect in Sport’s 2.5 hour highly engaging online training is for Activity Leaders of all levels: recreational, competitive, and elite, with the intention of:
• Empowering and educating youth leaders and coaches on the prevention of abuse, bullying and harassment
• Building a holistic culture of respect within the sport community
• Providing fundamental training tools which enable all coaches and youth leaders to become better role models for the young athletes in their care
WHAT IS THE FEE? WHEN TO I HAVE TO RENEW?
Fee is $12.00 plus HST – note this course only needs to be taken once – no expiry.
HOW WILL THE PARKDALE FLAMES KNOW THAT I HAVE TAKEN THE COURSE?
This program is synced with Hockey Canada (HCR). Once a parent completes the program, the parent will go to the “Child Management” page and enters the child’s name, birthdate and allocates him/her to the “Parkdale Hockey Association”. This is the organization for all House League and Select players. If a parent has already taken the Parent Respect in Sport program, they can log into the link above and add their child to their profile.
WHEN DOES IT HAVE TO BE COMPLETED?
Dates to complete the program – if player is trying out for Select – prior to tryouts
For regular house league players – prior to September 22nd, 2016
Please note that this program has been mandatory in other areas of the HCR and the overwhelming response has been positive for all parties involved.
